A Blackpool man has recounted his harrowing experience of spending four days in the hospital due to a painful leg infection following a suspected spider bite.
Glenn Priestley, aged 73, was working at his mother's home when he felt a sharp sensation on his leg, initially thinking it was an insect. He later observed a medium-sized brown spider nearby.
The situation rapidly escalated as his left leg became intensely painful, swollen, and inflamed within a day. Upon seeking medical attention, doctors recognized the severity and admitted him to Blackpool Victoria's medical assessment unit.
Priestley suspects the bite may have come from a noble false widow spider, a species noted for its potent venom. The infection caused his skin to flake off during his hospital stay.
