SC Measles Cases Spike: 434 Infected in Outbreak
14 Jan
Summary
- South Carolina health officials reported 434 measles cases.
- 378 infections were among unvaccinated individuals.
- A mobile health unit will offer free vaccinations.

The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed an escalating measles outbreak, announcing 434 cases by Tuesday, an increase of 124 since Friday. This cluster is primarily affecting the state's northwestern areas, including Greenville and Spartanburg.
Analysis of the infected population reveals a stark trend: 378 individuals were unvaccinated, with only six reported as fully vaccinated. Currently, 409 people are under quarantine following exposure, and 17 are in isolation. The majority of cases involve children aged five to 17, followed by those under five.
To counter the spread of this highly contagious viral infection, the state health department is launching its Mobile Health Unit this week. This initiative will provide free measles-mumps-rubella and flu shots in the affected upstate region.
