A seemingly minor foot issue led to a life-altering diagnosis of motor neuron disease (MND) for Lynne Gittins, 70. This progressive neurological condition impairs the nerves controlling voluntary muscle movement, eventually affecting essential functions.
Initially presenting as a circulation or nerve problem, Lynne's condition has since progressed, limiting her mobility. Despite these challenges, she remains a dedicated mother and grandmother, cherishing time with her family, including trips to the beach.
Her son, Tom Waterhouse, recently completed an arduous 100-mile nonstop walk across Norfolk in 33 hours. This remarkable feat was undertaken to honor his mother's strength and raise vital awareness and funds for MND research.
Through his fundraising efforts with the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, Waterhouse generated over $7,700. These donations will support research into MND, a disease that claimed the life of Doddie Weir in 2022.
The Motor Neuron Disease Association provides crucial home-based care for Lynne, ensuring she receives support with dignity and a touch of humor. The association also extends support to her husband, acknowledging the significant daily challenges he faces.
