Rare Surgeries Showcase SMS Hospital's Surgical Prowess
18 Jul
Summary
- Surgeons removed 15 benign breast lumps from an 18-year-old woman.
- A diaphragmatic hernia caused organs to shift into the chest cavity.
- A dedicated Breast Screening OPD will soon launch at SMS Hospital.

Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital has successfully conducted two rare and complex surgical procedures, highlighting the advanced capabilities of its General Surgery Department.
Surgeons removed an unusual total of 15 benign lumps from the breasts of an 18-year-old woman. The patient, initially fearful of cancer, recovered well after the surgery, which was deemed necessary due to the high number of lumps.
In a separate case, a woman suffering from persistent abdominal pain was treated for a diaphragmatic hernia. Her right kidney, colon, and part of her liver had shifted into her chest cavity through a significant defect. This condition, if left untreated, posed severe risks.
Doctors performed an advanced laparoscopic procedure to correct the hernia and reposition the organs. To enhance patient care, SMS Hospital will soon introduce a dedicated Breast Screening OPD for women experiencing breast-related issues.
