A 30-year-old Australian woman has launched a personal campaign urging her compatriots to undergo regular skin checks, following her own melanoma diagnosis three years ago. At 27, she discovered a suspicious lesion and, after initially facing difficulties getting her concerns taken seriously by multiple GPs, was diagnosed with melanoma in situ, an early-stage skin cancer.

Her experience has driven her to recommend consulting GPs with specific skin cancer training or dedicated skin cancer clinics. She stresses that ignoring suspicious spots or delaying professional evaluation can have serious consequences, sharing that her online plea has already prompted others to get checked and find cancerous growths.

The woman's initiative aims to raise awareness that skin cancer can affect people of all ages, not just the elderly. She encourages vigilance, self-monitoring, and seeking second opinions when necessary, promoting a proactive approach to skin health, especially during warmer months.
