- Expert panels are investigating alleged medical negligence.
- Preliminary findings suggest necessary pre-surgery tests were missed.

An expert panel at Sassoon General Hospital is investigating the death of a six-year-old girl who passed away on May 18 after an eye-related procedure at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital. The family alleges medical negligence, prompting this inquiry. A preliminary investigation by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) concluded on June 1, noting that essential tests such as Chest X-ray, ECG, and 2D Echo were not performed before the surgery.
The PMC report also indicated that post-surgery test results might suggest a potential bleeding disorder. However, the exact cause of death remains undetermined as the post-mortem report is still pending. Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital stated that the child was admitted for examination under anesthesia, not surgery, and that pre-operative tests like ECG and echo are not routinely recommended for such procedures unless specifically indicated.
Further investigation by an expert committee under the supervision of the Sassoon General Hospital superintendent has been recommended. This committee will scrutinize all available medical reports and past health records to ascertain the cause of death and review the allegations of negligence.
