7 Jul
Summary
- Campaign targets 2.5 million children under five across Sindh.
- Environmental samples show reduced poliovirus presence, but not eliminated.
- 26,000 polio workers and 7,000 police are supporting the week-long effort.

A significant week-long anti-polio campaign has commenced in Sindh, with the provincial government aiming to administer vaccinations to 2.5 million children under the age of five. The initiative was formally launched with public health officials administering polio drops and urging parental cooperation.
Officials from EOC-Sindh have reported encouraging results from environmental surveillance, with most samples testing negative for poliovirus in Karachi and across the province. However, they caution that the virus has not been fully eliminated, stressing the continued necessity of high vaccination coverage to halt transmission.
The campaign, which will run until July 12, involves approximately 26,000 polio workers. To ensure their safety and the campaign's success, 7,000 police personnel have been deployed across Karachi. Special focus is being placed on reaching children who were previously missed or whose parents declined vaccination.
