The brain injury charity Headway has unveiled its newly refurbished headquarters in Shropshire, following a £600,000 investment. This extensive renovation has created a modern wellness hub designed to better accommodate the needs of individuals with brain injuries. The facility now boasts a wheelchair-accessible kitchen, a dedicated art room, and an enhanced IT suite, improving the overall accessibility and functionality of the space.
The significant funding for this project included a substantial £475,000 grant from the National Lottery's Community Fund. Charity CEO Nia Rossiter expressed deep gratitude, highlighting that the building, originally opened in 2002, had not undergone renovations since. The upgrades address previous limitations, ensuring adequate space and circulation for wheelchair users and enhancing the centre's ability to provide essential support services.
Chuk, a beneficiary of Headway's services, shared his personal experience, emphasizing the centre's life-changing impact after a serious accident in 2003. He now visits three times weekly, stating he "doesn't know what he would do without the centre." The revitalized headquarters aims to increase awareness and reach within Shropshire, enabling Headway to "really start shouting about it" and offer its comprehensive support to more people.
