7 Apr
Summary
- Essential construction near the emergency department starts Friday.
- Temporary changes to access routes and parking are expected.
- Crane installation will close car park and footpaths until Sunday.

Essential construction near the emergency department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will commence this Friday and continue until Sunday. During this period, temporary adjustments to access routes and parking arrangements are anticipated, but all hospital services will operate as usual. The work necessitates the relocation of a modular building, which will be moved to a site near the new ward 38 and 39. This relocation is a crucial step in the ongoing refurbishment of the emergency department, aimed at creating a specialized children's emergency care area. Concurrently, a major redevelopment project is underway at the hospital, projected to conclude in 2028. The full redevelopment of the emergency department is slated for completion in 2027, as part of a significant multimillion-pound, four-storey expansion.
Additionally, a crane is being installed in the car park adjacent to the Copthorne Building. Consequently, this car park and the adjacent pedestrian footpaths will be temporarily closed from 18:00 BST on Friday until 17:00 on Sunday. Patients and visitors heading to services within the Copthorne Building over the weekend are advised to use the Evolution Suite on Evolution Road for access, where parking facilities will be available. All patients and visitors arriving at the emergency department are instructed to follow the guidance of onsite traffic marshals.
