Shingles Pain Cripples Indian Seniors With Chronic Illness
27 Feb
Summary
- 43% of Indian seniors with shingles reported severe, day-disrupting pain.
- Over one in three seniors reported shingles stopped them from working.
- Nearly a quarter knew little to nothing about shingles risk.

A recent survey highlights the severe impact of shingles on older adults in India who are living with chronic health conditions. The findings indicate that 43% of those affected experienced intense, day-disrupting pain. Furthermore, over one in three reported that the infection prevented them from working or participating in social events.
The survey, which included 752 Indian adults aged 50 to 70 with conditions like cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes, revealed a significant knowledge gap. Nearly one in four participants knew very little about shingles. Despite regular doctor visits, 48% had never discussed shingles with their physician, and nearly one-fifth believed their chronic condition did not affect their immunity or shingles risk.
