Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity is celebrating a significant milestone: 50 years of dedicated support. Established in 1976, the charity has been instrumental in transforming care at Sheffield Children's Hospital. Its contributions include funding the region's first mobile intensive care ambulance for Embrace, Yorkshire and the Humber's infant transport team, and investing in the UK's first dedicated pediatric clinical research facility.
CEO John Armstrong emphasized the profound difference charitable support makes, from major developments to smaller touches that comfort patients and families. He expressed gratitude to the community of donors, fundraisers, partners, and volunteers whose generosity powers the charity's mission. This golden anniversary aligns with a landmark year for Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, which celebrates its own 150th anniversary.
To commemorate these achievements, the charity is launching the Pride of Yorkshire sculpture trail across South Yorkshire, aiming to raise £2.8 million. Ruth Brown, chief executive of Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, noted that these milestones reflect a long-standing partnership focused on improving children's lives. Recent donations have facilitated the development of a new hospital wing, advanced imaging technology, a state-of-the-art helipad, and the transformation of the hematology and oncology ward.
