These sessions, initiated over a decade ago, cater to individuals with conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, and spinal stenosis, improving their mobility and reducing pain.

The program emerged as a response to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in Africa, where healthcare systems often struggle to keep pace with rising life expectancies. Many older adults face significant financial barriers to accessing diagnostics and treatment, making low-cost solutions like these classes essential.

Founder Ndiamé Samb, inspired by similar programs in Paris, opted for the sea over pools due to accessibility and cost. Now attracting hundreds of students weekly, the 300 CFA franc ($0.50) sessions are led by volunteers, with modest fees covering operational costs and equipment, supplemented by city subsidies.
