School Reopens After Mass Illness Closes Doors

Budehaven Community School in Bude, Cornwall, has resumed normal operations following a two-day closure last week. The decision to suspend in-person learning was prompted by a substantial outbreak of flu and streptococcus infections.

During the closure, more than 270 pupils and 32 staff members were absent from school due to illness. Head teacher Dominic Wilkes emphasized that the closure was a collective decision made in consultation with public health officials, and thanked the school community for their support.

Health officials are reiterating advice for individuals to stay home if they exhibit flu symptoms to mitigate transmission. While the school is open, the situation remains under review, with a focus on encouraging attendance only when students and staff are well enough.
