Summary
- Bleed kits costing £80 can stop severe bleeding until paramedics arrive.
- Funding secured to install kits in all senior schools in Essex and Suffolk.
- Kits contain tourniquets, gauze, and bandages for immediate first aid.

A vital safety initiative is underway to equip all senior schools in Essex and Suffolk with mandatory bleed kits. These kits, priced at £80 each, are designed to control severe bleeding from stab wounds or other traumatic injuries, providing critical first aid until emergency services can take over.
Peter Dutch, founder of the Colchester Anti Loo Roll Brigade, is spearheading this effort, having already provided kits and training locally. He believes it is unacceptable for a child's survival to depend on charity intervention. His campaign has gained traction, with his Member of Parliament raising the issue in the House of Commons.
The bleed kits contain a tourniquet, specialized gauze, bandages, and cutting scissors. First aid trainers emphasize the significance of these kits, noting that severe arterial bleeds can be fatal within minutes. Preparedness training is being delivered to school staff, ensuring they can effectively use the equipment during critical incidents.
