Doctors at Apollo Hospitals, Visakhapatnam, have successfully treated a 35-year-old patient with Achalasia Cardia. This condition obstructs swallowing by preventing the valve between the esophagus and stomach from relaxing.
The advanced Per-Oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) technique was employed, allowing doctors to access and treat the affected muscle through the mouth. This endoscopic approach eliminated the need for any external surgical cuts, resulting in a scarless procedure.
Following the successful treatment, the patient experienced a rapid recovery. Within days of the POEM procedure, she was able to resume a normal diet, significantly improving her quality of life.
