Scarborough CDC Opens Doors for Faster Health Scans

The Scarborough Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) is scheduled to open its doors in February, bringing essential diagnostic services closer to local residents. This new facility in Eastfield will provide a range of tests, including ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, and CT scans, alongside recovery spaces, significantly enhancing healthcare accessibility.

The centre is projected to be fully operational by March. From April, it will offer at least one diagnostic service daily, operating for 12 hours a day, seven days a week. This extended availability is designed to accommodate patients' busy schedules, allowing them to access vital diagnostic tests without disrupting their working lives. Health minister Karin Smyth highlighted that 103 CDCs are already open with such extended hours nationwide.

While the permanent building's retrospective planning application is pending approval, the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust stated the two-storey structure will enable patients to receive planned diagnostic care nearer to home. The Scarborough CDC has already been active since October 2023 from a temporary site at Bridlington Hospital, having conducted nearly 58,000 diagnostic tests to date.
