The city of Sault Ste. Marie has initiated operations at its Homeless and Addiction Recovery Treatment Hub, known as a HART Hub, on October 1st. This facility, managed by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Algoma, aims to provide comprehensive recovery and treatment services for those facing challenges with substance use and mental health.
CMHA Algoma received its provincial funding on September 15th and chose a subdued launch to manage the integration of new services and assist both staff and existing clients in adapting to the revised operational model. This approach allowed for the refinement of services, ensuring a more effective delivery of care.
Key services offered at the HART Hub include addiction medicine, primary care, housing outreach, and homelessness diversion, with plans to expand crisis counselling and increase the Community Wellness Bus's operational days from three to seven per week. While some services like the needle exchange program have been moved off-site, overall service interactions have remained robust, with over 1,000 visits recorded in October.
