The former Pleasant Hill School in Saskatoon is undergoing a significant $20 million transformation into a comprehensive wellness center, with an anticipated opening this fall. This facility will provide essential medical services, including state-of-the-art MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound equipment, alongside a pharmacy and mental health support. The project is led by Ahtahkakoop Cree Developments Medical Holdings LP, aiming to serve the entire Saskatoon community.
This initiative is a key component of a broader $45 million investment by Ahtahkakoop in the area, which also includes the construction of a three-storey, 150-vehicle parkade. Construction of the parkade could commence as early as next month. Nearby, the provincial government is independently developing Saskatoon's first urgent care center on a long-term leased portion of the former school grounds, expected to open in early 2027.
The rezoning for the wellness center and parkade has received endorsement from Saskatoon's municipal planning commission, with city council to make the final approval. This project marks a historic collaboration, with Ahtahkakoop pursuing urban reserve status for the property, aiming to support Indigenous businesses and community well-being while preserving the heritage value of the 1928-built school.
