Factors such as changes in food supply chains and increased at-home food preparation, which can elevate the risk of cross-contamination, are being considered.
Last year, 13 types of salmonella bacteria were identified, affecting 269 individuals, and resulting in 33 hospitalizations. While salmonella-related deaths were not recorded, other serious foodborne diseases like listeriosis continue to pose risks.
Public health authorities are reinforcing advice on practicing good food hygiene. Emphasis is placed on thorough handwashing, proper food handling, and excluding individuals with gastrointestinal symptoms from food preparation and public settings like schools and workplaces for at least 48 hours after recovery.
