New Medical Tech Boosts Safdarjung Hospital Diagnostics
3 Sep
Summary
- New diagnostic services for complex conditions are now available.
- Advanced bladder diagnostics use video urodynamics and brain mapping.
- PET-CT and SPECT-CT facilities enhance cancer and other diagnoses.

Advanced diagnostic services for complex urinary, cardiac, neurological, and kidney conditions have been introduced at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital. These new facilities were inaugurated on Thursday by Union health minister J.P. Nadda. A specialized center for advanced bladder diagnostics now combines video urodynamics with near infrared spectroscopy-based brain mapping, a first in India. This innovative approach will help determine the root cause of bladder disorders, whether they are primarily neurological or bladder-related.
The hospital's Nuclear Medicine department has also been equipped with PET-CT and SPECT-CT scanners. These advanced imaging technologies will significantly aid in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment planning for cancer patients. Furthermore, SPECT-CT will enhance the diagnostic accuracy for cardiac, renal, and other conditions. These expanded services aim to benefit approximately 5,000 bladder diagnostics patients and 600-700 nuclear medicine patients annually at affordable costs, supporting postgraduate training and multidisciplinary care.
