Summary
- Young man died after a brain stroke due to alleged missed treatment opportunities.
- Family awarded Rs 1 crore compensation for medical negligence.
- Consumer commission held hospital and neurologist responsible for lapses.

Six years after a 30-year-old man suffered a fatal brain stroke, a Hyderabad consumer commission has awarded his parents Rs 1 crore in a medical negligence case. Surya Pratap Bharati experienced a brain stroke on the University of Hyderabad campus and was taken to a private hospital within the critical timeframe for treatment.
Despite reaching the hospital promptly, his condition worsened over the next 24 hours, with his brain swelling. His family contended that crucial intervention opportunities were missed. By the time he was transferred to another facility, he was unconscious and had sustained irreversible brain damage, ultimately passing away four days after the stroke.
The commission held both the hospital and the treating neurologist liable for the alleged lapses in care. This significant award acknowledges the family's claims regarding the mishandled critical period following the stroke.
