Tens of thousands gathered in Bucharest, Romania, to set a new Guinness World Record for the "longest table made from recycled materials." The 5,055-meter "Uniting Table" event brought together an estimated 20,000 participants, all for a common cause: raising funds for Romania's first pediatric psychiatry hospital. This groundbreaking facility is planned for construction within the Obregia Hospital complex.
The new 3,900-square-meter, five-level building will offer specialized care for children with mental illnesses, addressing an alarming increase in diagnoses such as depression, autism, and ADHD. Currently, the existing facility is overcrowded and lacks adequate resources, impacting the care provided to over 5,700 children annually. The estimated cost for the new hospital is 16.5 million euros, funded through private donations and sponsorships.
This record-breaking event, organized by Bloom The World Association, previously held the record with a 2,782-meter table. The Romanian government, through the Minister of Health, has pledged support by providing necessary equipment and furniture. Construction is slated for completion by 2027, aiming to significantly improve mental health services for Romania's youth.
