Summary
- Nearly 200 children have benefited from robotic surgery over three years.
- SGPGI is among the top four centers nationally for pediatric robotic surgery.
- Successful treatments include choledochal cysts and PUJ obstruction.

Medical robots are significantly improving the safety and outcomes of complex surgical procedures for children at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI). This advanced technology, combined with expert surgical skills, has benefited approximately 200 young patients over the last three years.
SGPGI has established itself as a leading center for pediatric robotic surgery, ranking among the top four in the nation for the volume of procedures performed. The youngest patient operated on was a six-month-old infant weighing just 5kg, while the oldest was an 18-year-old.
The hospital has achieved over 95% success in treating choledochal cysts, a congenital malformation that can lead to serious complications if left untreated. Robotic assistance has reduced risks and accelerated recovery for these young patients. Similarly, robotic interventions for pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction, a blockage between the kidney and ureter, have shown excellent results in more than 40 pediatric cases, averting life-threatening issues.
