RMLIMS Doctors Restore Shoulder Stability with New Procedure
3 Sep
Summary
- Young patient treated for 35-40 recurrent shoulder dislocations over four years.
- Arthroscopic bone block cerclage procedure restored joint stability effectively.
- Patient is recovering well with physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
- Advanced arthroscopic surgery facilities at RMLIMS handle complex cases.

A young patient experiencing recurrent shoulder dislocations, occurring approximately 35-40 times over four years, has been successfully treated at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS).
The patient's chronic shoulder instability significantly impacted daily activities and mobility. Medical assessments indicated substantial bone loss within the shoulder joint, necessitating specialized intervention.
Led by Prof. Dr. Pankaj Agrawal, the orthopaedics department performed a minimally invasive arthroscopic bone block cerclage procedure. This technique involved placing a bone graft and securing it with cerclage fixation to rebuild the joint's structural integrity and prevent further dislocations.
Doctors report the patient is recovering favorably and has commenced a phased rehabilitation program, including physiotherapy. Head of Department, Prof. Dr. Deepak Kumar, highlighted that bone block cerclage is an effective treatment for selected cases of recurrent shoulder dislocation with associated bone loss. The institute's advanced arthroscopic and sports injury surgery capabilities allow for the management of complex orthopedic conditions.
