The Ranchi Institute of Neuro-Psychiatry and Allied Sciences (Rinpas) has significantly expanded mental healthcare access through its tele-mental health video-conferencing facility. This service has been a lifeline for patients like Archana, who relocated to Patna and feared a relapse due to travel difficulties, and Rahul, who moved to Bengaluru for work.
Launched in September 2025, the tele-mental health centre has served around 60 individuals. It operates with a helpline (14499) and toll-free number (1800-345-4060) available on weekdays. Dr. Rahul Sharma reports 25 to 30 monthly calls from across Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and other states.
Commonly addressed issues include anxiety, mood disorders, behavioural problems, substance abuse, and personality disorders. Students and parents often reach out regarding stress, academic difficulties, and screen time. Dr. Amool Ranjan highlights the facility's crucial role for patients unable to visit Rinpas regularly, supporting both existing clients continuing online and new patients referred to OPD if needed.
