Karnataka Universities to Launch 'Blood Banks'

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) in Karnataka is establishing 'Rajiv Gandhi Rakta Kosh' blood repositories in every district to enhance local blood availability. This proactive measure aims to connect the university's extensive student and teacher network with individuals requiring blood transfusions.
A dedicated website is under development to manage voluntary blood donors. This platform will register students and staff, keeping their details confidential while displaying available blood groups in different districts. The system will facilitate direct contact between donors and recipients, ensuring prompt assistance during emergencies.
Beyond general blood donation, RGUHS is emphasizing platelet donation due to lower awareness and donor numbers. The university plans to raise awareness among its approximately 4 lakh students and 40,000 teachers to encourage both blood and platelet contributions.
The university will establish a central repository at its main campus to oversee district-level operations. This network is designed to make blood donation more accessible and efficient, addressing the current challenges of donor awareness and connection in Karnataka.
