Ehsaas, famously known as the 'Mowgli girl' after her discovery in the Katarniaghat forests nearly a decade ago, passed away on June 15 at the age of 18. Officials confirmed her death occurred at Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences.
The cause of death was determined to be septicaemia, a complication arising from a lung disease, as stated in the post-mortem report. Ehsaas had been admitted to the hospital on June 8 and was discharged on June 11 after her condition improved, but her health declined rapidly on June 15, leading to her final moments.
Discovered in January 2017, Ehsaas displayed behaviors such as walking on all fours and avoiding human interaction, drawing comparisons to Rudyard Kipling's fictional character Mowgli. While initially named Pooja, she was later renamed Ehsaas. Despite severe intellectual disabilities and recurrent epileptic seizures, she gradually adapted with years of care, learning to respond to affection and forming a bond with her caretaker, Rani.
Her life was marked by continuous medical treatment and rehabilitation efforts. Despite doctors noting significant underdevelopment in her brain, her caretakers witnessed her progress in adapting to human society and expressing affection.
