Summary

- The infant suffered from complex health and respiratory problems.
- Dicephalic parapagus occurs in approximately one in 3 lakh births.
A newborn conjoined twin, distinguished by having two heads and two necks attached to a single torso, has passed away a week after birth. The infant, born on October 11 to a 22-year-old woman, was diagnosed with dicephalic parapagus, an exceptionally rare condition. This conjoined twin shared a single torso, heart, and liver, along with one set of arms and legs.
Despite the dedicated efforts of a medical team, the infant's complex health problems, including severe respiratory issues, proved insurmountable. Doctors attempted surgery to save the child, but survival chances were critically low due to the rarity of the condition, which affects approximately one in 300,000 births.
The parents, initially shocked by the birth, were persuaded by district administration officials to take the body to their native village. The twins had been under constant critical care in the Special Newborn Care Unit since their birth.
