In a remarkable medical feat, doctors at Sawai Man Singh hospital in Jaipur have successfully performed a complex laparoscopic surgery on an 11-year-old boy. The child suffered from a rare congenital diaphragmatic hernia, a condition present since birth that caused significant internal displacement.
Approximately 70 percent of the boy's liver and intestines had moved into his chest cavity due to a defect in his diaphragm. This severely compressed his right lung, leaving him reliant on the function of a single lung. Right-sided diaphragmatic hernias are exceptionally uncommon, adding a layer of surgical challenge.
The surgical team opted for a laparoscopic approach, employing only three small incisions instead of traditional larger surgical openings. This technically demanding procedure allowed for the careful repositioning of the displaced organs back into the abdominal cavity.
Seven days following the successful operation, the young patient has made a full recovery and is reported to be in excellent health, demonstrating the efficacy of the minimally invasive technique.
