Rare 'Mermaid Birth' Stuns Colorado Hospital Staff

A Colorado mother, Madisyn Parente, recently experienced an exceptionally rare en caul birth. Her daughter, Carter Jeanette, was born still enclosed within the intact amniotic sac, a phenomenon also known as a 'mermaid birth' or 'veiled birth.' This remarkable event is estimated to occur in only about 1 in 80,000 deliveries.

Parente's birth experience began with postponed inductions, causing frustration. However, after the third delay, labor intensified rapidly upon her arrival at the hospital. She delivered her daughter in a 'spa room' due to the unavailability of delivery rooms, marveling at the unique circumstances of her child's arrival.
