- She is currently undergoing gruelling chemotherapy treatment.

A six-year-old girl, Esmae Smith, has been hospitalized since April after developing a rare and life-threatening condition. What began as a rash on her hands and feet was initially dismissed as a weather-related reaction or hives. However, Esmae's health quickly declined, with high fevers and difficulty walking.
She was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital, where she was diagnosed with Macrophage Activation Syndrome (MAS). Doctors explained this condition involves the body's white blood cells mistakenly attacking its own immune system, akin to the game character Pac-Man consuming everything.
Esmae is currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy to combat the disease, which is believed to be triggered by Systemic Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (sJIA). Her mother has set up a GoFundMe to support travel costs and provide a treat for Esmae once she recovers.
Doctors remain uncertain about Esmae's discharge date, but she will require daily immune-suppressant injections post-hospitalization. The family hopes for her recovery and future well-being.
