A family's vacation to Oregon tragically ended in early July with the sudden death of their 5-year-old son, Justin Vu, due to an extremely rare condition. Justin, who was visiting from Denver with his mother and sisters, developed a stomachache on July 3 that rapidly worsened.
Doctors initially suspected appendicitis or a bacterial infection, but tests revealed Justin had Clarkson's disease, also known as systemic capillary leak syndrome. This condition causes plasma to leak from blood vessels, leading to hypovolemic shock. It is exceptionally rare, with only about 300 adult cases documented since 1958 and just 30 pediatric cases since 1995.
Despite being placed on life support on July 5 with a 50/50 chance of survival, Justin's condition deteriorated. He passed away on July 8, surrounded by his family. His parents are now sharing their grief and a message to cherish every moment with loved ones. An online fundraiser for the family has raised nearly $45,000.
