Family "Blindsided" by Rapid Cancer Death

A devastatingly rapid cancer diagnosis has prompted a 100km fundraising challenge. Emmie Kay's grandad, Jim, passed away just six days after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, leaving his family "blindsided." Jim, who was 76, had no prior family history of cancer. His sudden death, after a brief illness that began with a twisted bowel, highlighted the aggressive nature of the disease.
Ms Kay is joined in the challenge by her friend Tash Selway, whose father, Paul, also succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2024. Paul, described as an active and healthy man, was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver. Despite his diagnosis, he continued to volunteer as a driver for others.
The duo will undertake a demanding 100km multi-sport event across Somerset during Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. Their efforts include running, swimming, walking, and cycling to raise vital funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK and Love Musgrove. They hope their initiative will contribute to research breakthroughs and provide much-needed support to patients and their families.
