Rajasthan launches Cancer Cell for better screening

A dedicated Cancer Cell has been established at the Rajasthan Health Directorate to improve the monitoring of cancer burden and enhance screening, referrals, and follow-up care across the state. This central unit will coordinate cancer screening, specialist consultations, and patient follow-up services.
The cell will track cancer trends, identify care gaps, and ensure effective deployment of mobile cancer screening vans. Advance publicity of 10 days is now required for these camps, with monthly calendars to be issued by district health officers.
Revised cancer treatment guidelines have been introduced, including telemedicine support. From August, patients will receive specialist medical oncology consultations remotely from SMS Medical Board doctors in Jaipur, accessible through district medical colleges.
This initiative aims to reduce the financial and logistical challenges faced by patients from remote districts, improving continuity of care and treatment decision-making.
