Youth Blood Drive Urged as Banks Face Shortage
16 Sep
Summary
- Campaign targets youth through NCC, educational institutions, and youth groups.
- Voluntary blood donation drive extended to October 17 to maximize donations.
- Blood group testing facilities to be available at various healthcare levels.
The Rajasthan state health department is actively working to increase voluntary blood donations, particularly from young individuals, due to a reported scarcity in blood banks. A campaign, running until October 17, emphasizes youth engagement through National Cadet Corps units, higher education institutions, and various youth organizations.
Under the slogan "One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.," the state government is extending its voluntary blood donation efforts. This initiative is crucial as blood banks face increased pressure, partly due to the department's policy of providing blood to pregnant women without mandating replacement donations.
Further support for the campaign will come from voluntary and non-governmental organizations, including the Indian Red Cross Society. All collection centers are mandated to maintain real-time data on the Blood Centres Management System and e-Raktkosh portal, adhering to the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
To combat misconceptions and encourage donations in rural areas, oath-taking ceremonies and awareness activities will be organized at the gram panchayat level. Additionally, blood group testing facilities are being made available at primary, community, sub-district, and district hospitals, as well as medical college-affiliated centers, throughout the campaign period.
