Water Crisis Grips Rajarhat Housing Complex
10 Aug
Summary
- Residents reported vomiting and diarrhoea due to suspected water contamination.
- Overhead tanks and reservoirs underwent cleaning, causing water scarcity.
- Medical teams and temporary water tankers were deployed to assist residents.

Residents in Rajarhat's Siddha Happyville housing complex have reported a series of illnesses, including vomiting, diarrhoea, and stomach pain, prompting an investigation into suspected water contamination.
On Monday, the Public Health Engineering department collected water samples from the complex for testing. Concurrently, facility management dispatched three doctors to treat affected residents, with around 70 individuals receiving consultations. No major health concerns were reported by the medical staff.
In response to resident complaints and a protest, complex authorities began cleaning overhead tanks and the underground reservoir supplying water to all nine towers on Sunday evening. This essential cleaning has unfortunately led to severe water scarcity, necessitating the deployment of temporary water tankers by district authorities.
Residents continue to express concerns, with messages on social media indicating fresh cases of illness. They also point to open drains within the complex as potential mosquito breeding sites. While authorities stated that under-construction areas were found to need cleaning and water accumulation was present, they found no indication of this water mixing with the tanks.
Water quality is reportedly tested every three months, and freshwater samples have been sent for further laboratory analysis. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and will act based on the test results and expert assessments.
