The Magna Medical Centre in Rackheath, near Norwich, built to accommodate thousands of new residents, is facing delays in opening its GP services. Although the building is operational and some services are running, the GP practice itself has not yet begun seeing patients. Hoveton & Wroxham Medical Practice was scheduled to operate services starting early 2026, but negotiations with NHS Property Services are still in progress.
The £11m medical centre is designed to serve up to 10,000 patients, supporting the construction of 4,000 new homes in Rackheath. This development is part of the Greater Norwich Local Plan, which outlines provision for up to 45,000 homes in the wider area over the next 15 years. Building commenced in 2024, with local councillors emphasizing the facility's urgent need.
NHS Property Services confirmed the building is operational, with a community trust already working from the site. They are currently finalizing terms for a licence agreement with the GP practice, which is also completing the installation of essential services like telephone lines. Local representatives have expressed concern over the continued delays, with residents frequently inquiring about the opening status of the practice.
