A 33-year-old accountant from Daund taluka, Pune, died on Wednesday night, February 4, 2026, from rabies. The infection occurred nearly three months after a stray dog bit him on November 6, 2025. This occurred despite him receiving anti-rabies vaccines and immunoglobulin doses.
Nagwade sustained a 6-cm lacerated wound on his right leg. He initially sought treatment at Yavat Rural Hospital and Sassoon General Hospital, receiving the first doses of anti-rabies vaccine and serum. However, it remains unclear if the full vaccination course was completed.
Months later, on February 3, 2026, Nagwade exhibited classic rabies symptoms, including hydrophobia and aerophobia. He was transferred through multiple hospitals, eventually admitted to Naidu Infectious Diseases Hospital. Despite intensive care, his condition rapidly worsened, leading to his death.
