Rabies Alert: Bat Tests Positive in Stone Mountain

DeKalb health officials have confirmed that a bat found in the Stone Mountain area tested positive for rabies on Tuesday. The carcass was discovered in the vicinity of Columbia Drive and York Place in south DeKalb. This finding has led Georgia health officials to issue an urgent warning to residents and pet owners regarding vaccination and preventative measures.

As Georgia is a rabies-endemic location with the virus present year-round, health officials emphasize that pets should be up-to-date on their preventative vaccines. They also advise against outdoor feeder stations and recommend contacting DeKalb County Animal Control if unusual animal behavior is observed. Individuals who are bitten or scratched by an animal should seek immediate medical care.
