Rabid Fox Attack Leaves Woman Injured, Arm Fractured
7 Mar
Summary
- Woman bitten by a fox, fractured arm during the attack.
- Local officials confirmed the attacking fox tested positive for rabies.
- Hays County offers low-cost rabies vaccination clinics for pets.

A Hays County woman sustained injuries, including a fractured arm and a bite wound, after being attacked by a fox confirmed to be rabid. The terrifying encounter happened about a week prior to the report, near Wimberley, when the animal unexpectedly lunged at Linda Rogers. She struggled with the fox and fell, breaking her arm.
This incident occurs as the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) reported an increase in rabies cases in Hays County this year. Eight animals have tested positive for rabies, with four of those being foxes. DSHS notes a rise in terrestrial rabies, affecting land mammals, over recent years.
Rabies is treatable if addressed promptly, but becomes almost always fatal once symptoms appear. To mitigate transmission risks, Hays County is continuing its quarterly low-cost rabies vaccination clinics for pets. The next clinic is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in San Marcos, with additional clinics planned for June 6 and August 15.
