Grünenthal announced new Phase III RISE trial data for Qutenza® regarding post-surgical neuropathic pain. The study, involving 409 participants, indicated that Qutenza® achieved a statistically significant reduction in average pain intensity compared to control treatments over weeks 2-12.
An extension phase of the trial allowed for up to four retreatments, where Qutenza® demonstrated statistically significant pain reduction over weeks 2-42. Safety findings remained consistent with previous trials, with no new signals observed.
These results bolster the known efficacy and safety of Qutenza®, a topical TRPV1 agonist. It is approved in Europe for peripheral neuropathic pain and in the U.S. for neuropathic pain associated with postherpetic neuralgia and diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
Post-surgical neuropathic pain is a significant complication affecting millions annually, often leading to depression and anxiety. The findings were presented at the 2026 IASP World Congress on Pain in Bangkok, Thailand.
