22 Jul
Summary
- New multi-storey car park with 1,335 spaces will be built.
- The existing car park will be leveled for the new hospital.
- New hospital construction is anticipated to start in 2028.

Construction has begun on a new multi-storey car park at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King's Lynn, marking a significant step towards a long-awaited rebuild. This new facility will accommodate 1,335 vehicles, with the existing car park set to be demolished to clear space for the future hospital. The current hospital structure, which notably contains Raac, is considered overdue for replacement.
While the projected start date for the new hospital's construction is 2028, improvement works are continuing at the existing site. These include a refurbishment of the emergency department to enhance patient waiting and clinic facilities. Hospital leadership has expressed confidence in their ability to continue serving the public effectively during the redevelopment phase.
The new car park is slated for completion by November 2027 and opening by Christmas of the same year, with a total cost of approximately £36 million funded by the New Hospitals Programme. Efforts are being made to manage disruption and ensure adequate parking for patients throughout the construction period.
