- The space aims to reduce travel costs and stress for families needing hospital proximity.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Prince Edward Island is preparing to offer a new two-bedroom apartment, providing a free sanctuary for families with patients. This initiative ensures that loved ones can remain close to the hospital, especially for those with infants in the neonatal intensive-care unit or facing critical diagnoses.
The hospital's social work department will manage the week-by-week assignment of the North River Road suite. This vital resource is intended for families who would otherwise incur significant expenses staying in local hotels, which can range from $100 to $189 per night. The suite offers a more comfortable and affordable alternative, reducing travel burdens.
This new space, donated by Bevan Enterprises and furnished through over $10,000 raised by the QEH Foundation, replaces a previously available apartment that served the community for over 18 years. The foundation is currently finalizing insurance coverage, with a family already identified to be the first to utilize the suite.
