5 Mar
Summary
- A statewide food adulteration check campaign runs April 1-15, 2026.
- Mobile 'Food Safety on Wheels' vans will conduct on-site testing.
- Strict action promised against anyone found indulging in adulteration.

A significant statewide campaign against food adulteration is set to commence in Punjab from April 1 to 15, 2026. Senior officials, public health experts, and regulatory representatives convened to direct the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to execute this extensive drive. The initiative will utilize 'Food Safety on Wheels' mobile vans, equipped to screen a wide range of food items.
These mobile testing vans are a critical component in combating food adulteration. The campaign encourages all Food Business Operators (FBOs) and the general public to have their food samples tested during this period. Emphasis will be placed on educating FBOs and performing immediate on-site testing.
Furthermore, a time-bound action plan has been approved for systematic sampling and testing of chemical residues and contaminants. Studies will investigate heavy metal and pesticide contamination in vegetables near industrial areas, test nutraceuticals, and detect antibiotic residues in poultry, eggs, and meat.
The data gathered will inform future regulatory decisions and policy interventions. The minister reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration and warned of strict actions against violators. FBOs, including street vendors, are urged to register with the FDA and adopt a "Eat Right, Stay Healthy" approach to foster a healthier Punjab.
