The Punjab government has launched SANGAT mental health clubs in 40 colleges statewide as part of the Yudh Nashean Virudh campaign. This initiative, led by the Department of Higher Education and the Aditya Birla Education Trust, focuses on promoting youth wellbeing and preventing substance abuse.
The program aims to create supportive environments where students can openly discuss mental health, recognize emotional distress, and seek help without stigma. A key component involves training 25 students from each participating college in Youth Mental Health First Aid, empowering them to offer initial peer support and direct fellow students to professional assistance.
SANGAT clubs will organize campus activities to foster conversations about emotional wellbeing and early identification of concerns. This effort is implemented by Mpower, an ABET subsidiary, under its Counselling and Outreach for Peer Empowerment framework. The initiative underscores the government's commitment to addressing substance abuse through prevention, awareness, and collective responsibility.
