Pune Patient Helpline: Silence or Systemic Failure?
10 Jun
Summary
- Pune's patient helpline received only 13 complaints in early 2026.
- Complaints decreased from 53 in 2024 to just 13 this year.
- Activists cite low awareness as the primary reason for low complaints.

The Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) patient grievance helpline, established in April 2023 to address complaints against private healthcare facilities, has received a concerningly low number of reports. As of June 7, 2026, only 13 complaints have been lodged, a significant decrease from previous years. Data reveals a declining trend: 35 complaints in 2023, peaking at 53 in 2024, then dropping to 37 in 2025, and now 13 in early 2026.
Healthcare activists suggest this downturn reflects poor public awareness and inadequate publicity of the toll-free number, 1800 233 4151. They argue that many citizens are unaware of the helpline's existence or how to access it. To counter this, activists recommend that all private hospitals be mandated to display the helpline number prominently.
PMC officials acknowledge the concerns and state that efforts are underway to boost public awareness and ensure prompt resolution of grievances. They affirm that all complaints received are processed according to established procedures under the Maharashtra Nursing Home Registration Act, 1949, and its regulations.
