Pune has established a new Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (MSU) to bolster its defense against infectious diseases. This initiative, approved under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, positions Pune as the fourth city in Maharashtra to implement such a crucial public health infrastructure.
The MSU, located at Tukaram Jawale Bhavan, is equipped with a dedicated medical staff and advanced laboratories. Its primary role involves continuous monitoring of diseases, assessment of contributing factors like vector breeding and water quality, and strategic planning for disease containment. The unit will also coordinate with national and state health institutes for research and response.
