Summary
- Four labs face notices for incomplete dengue/chikungunya test reporting.
- Pune registered 484 suspected dengue cases in August 2026.
- Authorities direct immediate elimination of mosquito breeding sites.

The Pune civic health department has issued notices to four laboratories for incomplete reporting of dengue and chikungunya test results. Dengue, a notifiable disease, saw 484 suspected cases registered in August 2026, with Kothrud and Nagar Road-Wagholi areas reporting the highest numbers. Two suspected dengue deaths are under review by a district committee.
Amid weather conditions conducive to mosquito breeding, Pune Municipal Corporation officials have directed all departments to identify and eliminate stagnant water and breeding sites. A review meeting on August 31, 2026, compared dengue, chikungunya, and malaria cases from the past three years. Data showed 484 suspected dengue cases in August, a significant increase from 323 in July and 175 in June of the same year. Previous years showed 4,958 dengue cases in 2024 and 2,391 in 2025.
Preventive measures include issuing guidelines for identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding sites, conducting public awareness campaigns, and ensuring proper waste disposal. Instructions were also given to play audio messages on garbage collection vehicles. The anti-encroachment department is tasked with ensuring seized materials do not accumulate rainwater, thus preventing potential breeding grounds.
