14 Sep
Summary
- Nine civic hospitals in Pune are slated for upgrades.
- Facilities will include modular OTs, ICUs, and NICUs.
- 38 specialist doctors will be hired on contract.
The Pune Municipal Corporation is embarking on a significant initiative to modernize nine of its civic hospitals. This comprehensive upgrade aims to equip these facilities with state-of-the-art medical amenities, including modular operation theatres, intensive care units (ICUs), and neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). The enhancements are designed to elevate the standard of care provided and decrease the necessity for patients to seek treatment at private or tertiary-care hospitals.
The plan encompasses several key hospitals, such as Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi Hospital. Upgrades will include advanced HVAC systems for improved climate control in critical areas, enhanced labour rooms, and a new Integrated Ward Management System to streamline operations. A 10-bed ICU will be established at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, while Kamala Nehru Hospital will receive a 10-bed NICU equipped with specialized equipment to support critically ill newborns.
To support these expanded services, the Pune Municipal Corporation will also onboard 38 specialist doctors on a contractual basis. These crucial positions cover various specialties like gynaecology, paediatrics, and critical care. This strategic move by the PMC is expected to significantly strengthen the capacity of civic hospitals to deliver specialized and life-saving care, particularly in emergency and critical situations.
