A three-year-old boy, declared brain dead after a severe accident, has given the gift of life to four individuals through organ donation. This poignant event marks the first organ donation in the Pune Zone from a child of such a young age. The Zonal Transplant Coordination Center (ZTCC) confirmed that the previous youngest donor in the region was nine years old.
The child was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic on June 2 following critical injuries sustained from a fall. Despite intensive medical efforts, he was declared brain dead on June 12. The grieving parents, after counselling, made the courageous decision to donate his organs, offering hope to others.
His kidneys and liver were successfully transplanted into two pediatric recipients, while his corneas were donated to restore vision for two corneal blind patients. Doctors emphasized the rarity of organ donation from such a young child and praised the family's selfless act.
